Installation of Pastor Angela Denker
You are invited to attend the installation of Pastor Angela Denker as Pastor for Visitation and Public Theology at Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church on Sunday August 18 at 5:00 pm. Bishop-Elect Jen Nagel will be with us for this installation.
Here’s a little bit more about the role at Lake Nokomis Lutheran:
What does it mean to have a Pastor for Visitation and Public Theology?
The Visitation part is not new to us. This pastor will visit our people. It's a ministry of presence and compassion for our faith community, especially for those members who cannot regularly be with us in person. The visitation pastor helps us to keep a strong relationship with each other as well as bringing the promise of God’s love and care through prayer and Holy Communion.
The Public Theology role is new at Lake Nokomis Lutheran, and a relatively new idea within the ELCA. It means we’re eager to have a public conversation about God’s work in the world. It doesn’t mean we’ll always agree, it doesn’t mean we’ll avoid complicated issues, and it doesn’t mean one voice speaks for all. It means we’re brave enough to have the conversation. It helps us live into one of Lake Nokomis Lutheran’s core values, “enough courage” to boldly share the hope within us.
In both visitation and public theology, this is a ministry of presence, compassion, witness and connection.
Please come to hear about this new role and learn about Pastor Angela’s work in public theology. At time when everyone asking about what a Christian response to the political rhetoric should be, Pastor Angela is an important resource for the faith communities in our synod. Pastor Angela helps guide theological conversations that are meaningful, fair, and faithful.
