“Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith, music proves: We are the same.” ~John Denver

CHILDREN'S MUSIC OPPORTUNITY
We are living into the pulse of the community.
Heartbeat is a new music opportunity for children, kids, youth (whatever you want to call yourselves) for anyone K-8th grade. We will meet at 6:00 pm every Wednesday night in the large sanctuary for about 30 minutes.
The logo above shows a little bit of what you can expect to find in Heartbeat, but certainly not limited to:
Boomwhackers - pitched and colored plastic tubes that you tap on the ground, in your hands, on your lap, on another tube, to make music.
Handbells - The B in Heartbeat (and B for bell) kinda looks like a handbell, a brass instrument that you use your hands to ring.
Drums - In this case, the middle T of Heartbeat looks like that of a special kind of drum called a “djembe.” We will use these instruments as we start to pick up our rhythm.
Voice - Now the voice is represented in the open parts of some of the letters. This relates to opening up your mouth and letting go of the sound within you. An additional component of this is what we will be singing. The majority of the music “sung” will be justice oriented.
And because “words matter,” we want to be mindful of the people in our community of Lake Nokomis Lutheran, our partner congregations at New Branches, but especially the surrounding community outside our walls, who may or may not be Christian, who may have a different faith, or maybe they just want to play some music and sing some songs about just being good people and supporting neighbors. And maybe everyone just wants to have some fun. We hope so!
Since we are living into a new experience together, this opportunity may evolve into who knows what. It will be a journey that we live and walk together, in community.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dennis Wallisch - [email protected].
